The Right Fit

“How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!” Psalm 147:1

Because I’ve made my list but not checked it twice, I spent the morning shopping for Christmas presents. (Thank goodness for Amazon Prime!)  As I clicked from site to site, I found myself wondering over and over, “Will it fit?”  We all ask this question when looking for gifts for those we love. Often we’re talking size—Is it too big?  Too small? Or just right?  At other times we’re thinking taste—Will it match a style?  A personality?  A preference?  Occasionally we just guess and go with it and hope our purchase brings happiness, but sometimes we find just the right thing for just the right person, and that is very fun.

We all have certain folks that are easy to buy for because we know what they like, while others are a bit more difficult because we’re not quite sure what they prefer. God should never be in the second category because He gave us a list that we should check way more than twice. In Psalms 147:1 we’re told, “How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!”  To put it straight, praise is the perfect present for God. It always fits. It can never be too big. Any style we choose will match His personality, and He prefers it to all other presents.

It’s good for us to praise God, to sing the delights of His hope, joy, peace, and love, and it pleases Him when we lift our hearts and voices in His honor and glory. It’s also fitting for us to praise God. Nothing else in the entire universe could be more appropriate or proper than for the very One who made us and saved us to be heralded as the holy, righteous, and gracious God He was, is, and forever will be. So this Christmas, stop wondering what to give the One who gave it all and go with worship.

In every season, for all the reasons, praise is always the perfect present because you can’t go wrong with something that fits just right.
